Teleman return with a deluxe version of their latest album 'Good Time / Hard Time', coming 22nd September via Moshi Moshi. 'String Theory' is the brand new single, taken from the deluxe album. Tom from the band says,

"Once we had released and toured the album, we were aware of these extra songs that were knocking around; songs that should have/could have made the cut but for one reason or another got left off. As well as that, there was the usual big pile of demos and alternative versions that we always have when we come round to making an album. So we thought that a Deluxe version of the album was in order - all the bells and whistles - and to top it all off, we went back into the studio and recorded a brand new track called ‘String Theory’ which came out really well."

‘String Theory’ is the new track which comes with this version of the album. A slice of cosmic-leaning electronics which finds comfort in the endless vacuum of space:

"I’m fascinated by space, the universe, time travel etc. I think it's because I find comfort in the fact that the distances and objects in the universe are so inconceivably massive that our problems and anxieties here on earth suddenly seem so small and funny. This track uses the figure of an astronaut to represent someone who has gone too far, seen too much to ever return to normality. It seems to tap into a recurrent theme in lots of my lyrics which has to do with escapism- in this case the extreme example of leaving the planet. The Moroder-inspired outro was something that wasn't part of the demo but came from experimenting in the studio and wanting to create some kind of powerful tension build which finally gets released at the end."

Good Time / Hard Time is their most dancefloor-friendly record to date. Following the departure of the band’s long-time keyboard player Jonny Sanders to focus on his film and design work, Peter Cattermoul now leads on keyboard duties and Hiro Amamiya slides seamlessly between drum machine, live drums and even the odd keyboard solo as it captures the bounce of choice cuts from their own DJ sets such as Metronomy or the classic disco of Boney M, Giorgio Moroder, early house music and 80s vibes - all the while doused in their trademark blend of uplifting melancholy. “You’ve got to experience the hard times to appreciate the good times in life,” Tom explains. “Most of the songs are about universal things everyone can relate to, the small and simple details about difficult connections and overcoming them.”

Like so many others, this came like a bolt out of the blue and, even though it's well before payday, I had to have this astonishing album on vinyl to prove it exists. The feel of the tunes makes me feel like the Impressions do, Curtis Mayfield, the big spaces and instinctive horns and stuff drifting in and out. Great grooves and I can see lots of ghosts nodding along to this with big smiles on their faces. At last! Anthony Cottrell
